A “Winter ONEderland”

My first baby’s 1st Birthday…..

I knew I wanted this to be big, fun and special, just like him. He was a December baby so I really wanted the party to have winter vibes without feeling Christmas-y, hence “Winter ONEderland”.

Our guest list was growing and we needed a venue that could comfortably host everyone and with additional space for the kids to play – the Westbury Manor was a perfect fit. The party started in one room with passed hor d’oeurves and tables of appetizers and crudites platters. Guests were mingling and drinks were flowing! Once most of the guests arrived we moved into the main room which was set just like a Winter Wonderland.

I wanted each table to feel special. Centerpieces were plush snowmen and penguins holding balloons. There was a glittery framed picture on each table of the guests seated at that table with the birthday boy himself (from his Christening). And the venue printed menus with the meal selections we were offering. Most of the tables had kids seated there as well, so I put baskets of activities for them at those tables.

This party happened before I really got into baking so we ordered the cake locally, I believe. It was almost 6 years ago as I write this, and I cannot remember who made the cake 🙁 But it was stunning and the details were unbelievable.

With so many young kids in attendance we decided to bring in some entertainment for an hour. There was face painting, a balloonist, singing and dancing, cotton candy, bubbles, a magic show, and even Elmo made a ‘surprise’ appearance! Most of the kids loved it, our birthday boy was TERRIFIED!!!

Some of the smaller details were the Hershey chocolates in personalized wrappers scattered on each table, the “1” chocolate lollipops and marshmellow snowmen I made and a scrapbook of Aiden’s first year.

No party would be complete without the favors! The kids all went home with a winter bag full of snacks, games and other goodies. The adults received a snowflake ceramic bowl full of Lindt chocolates.

This will always be one of my very favorite parties and a day I’ll never forget 🙂
